Shirley W. Davis

Shirley W. Davis 87, of Ballston Spa, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at her home. Born in Ballston Lake, October 12, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Leland and Sophie Witbeck. Shirley was a graduate of the Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at the Rhodes Army Hospital in Utica during World War II.

After the war, Shirley raised her family and sponsored many Fresh Air children and foster children over the years. In the early 1970’s, she opened the Mourningkill Bake Shop at her home in Ballston Spa. Shirley worked at the bake shop and up until a few years ago was still peeling apples for the pies. She was a member of the Ballston Center Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. She was a quilter and enjoyed reading, gardening, and puzzles.

Shirley was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Davis. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry Davis, her children, Sue McCormick (Bob) of Ballston Spa, Denise Smith of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Laurie Boekeloo (Tom) of Ballston Spa, and Robert Davis (Bonnie) of Ballston Spa, 5 grandchildren, Kimberly McCormick, Rachel Davis, Jacob Davis, Zachary Boekeloo, and Lydia Boekeloo, and great granddaughter, Reilly McCormick.

Funeral services will be held 11am Monday, December 19, at the Ballston Center Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 58 Charlton Road, Ballston Spa. Burial will follow in Ballston Spa Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the service from 10-11am Monday at the church.
